About TopDog-Photo.com

Areas in which I have specialized include amateur sports and athletics, real estate marketing, portrait, special event, and custom photography.  Contact me if you would like to know my thorough definition of "custom photography"  (basically it's what you can't find anyone else to consider doing).  I have also followed the local music scene in Seattle and have been engaged to provide marketing and CD/album cover photography, layout and design for local bands.  Click on the Seattle Music Scene link below to see recent examples of work I did for Seattle band Ref the Fox.

The Name TopDog-Photo.com, was inspired by my faithful Irish Setter, Reilly, who has kept me entertained and off the couch for the past ten years.  In 1999, after having been dogless for 12 years (since the passing of my first Irish), I decided that enough time had passed and that it was time to get another dog.  I was unsuccessful in my at attempts to locate an Irish Setter in the Seattle area, so I broadened my search and located a breeder in the Rose City who had five puppies left from a recent litter.  When I arrived, Reilly was an easy pick: he was the one who seemed the least interested to see me, which made him a challenge I couldn't resist.  He was seven weeks and six days old when I drove him back to Seattle from Portland.  He has been my best friend and favorite companion since.

My first experience with photography occurred when I was in high school in Western Montana.  My friends and I would photograph each other skiing off 30- and 40-foot cliffs and cornices, 30-foot high jumps built out of hay bales, chairlift towers, and whatever else we could find, generally the higher the better.   Whenever possible, we tried to capture the moments, but we were often shooting in the poorest of conditions, with the worst possible lighting, and the most rudimentary of equipment.  None of the pictures we took ever adorned the wall in anyone's home or office.  Most were looked at once and ended up in some shoebox, the whereabouts of which are currently unknown.  Since then, I have continued to carry a camera with me whenever possible, and capture moments that are worthy of preservation.
